- Training of youth on skills
- Provision of training material
- Construction of resource centre in Mandeng
- Formation of youth group club
UNKEA is proud and privileged to have been given the opportunity
to undertake the Youth Project in Mandeng Payam in Nasir County,
Upper Nile Region, Southern Sudan. More importantly, we are glad
to note that the project has been able to achieve the stated mandate
and positively impact on the youth in this area. UNKEA is proud
to note that the youth are particularly inspired and desirous of
improving their social-economic status and work for the reconstruction
of Southern Sudan; that they want to forget about the unfortunate
historical developments and civil strife that has characterized
Southern Sudan for decades.
We are confident that our joint efforts, particularly with crucial
development partners such as the NPA will help bring the desired
change in Nasir County and ensure the youth, as well as other categories
of people - especially the marginalized – are a proud people
who are able to meet the daily challenges of live. As partners,
we shall continue to work to address the myriad issues and problems
that touch on the youth, including such pandemics as HIV/AIDS and
repugnant practices that work against our development and help nurture
an environment of civil strife.
My thanks go to the community, our staff, the government, stakeholders,
including such pivotal
development partners such as NPA and all persons and organizations
of goodwill who are always willing to help us move on a path toward
social healing, tolerance, peace and development. In particular,
it is UNKEA’s hope that NPA will, as always, continue support
this (and other such projects) project so as to help in the realization
of the specified objectives as well as help our organization meet
its mandate.
This shall be in line with our stated vision, “To see a
competitive Southern Sudan, with productive and God-fearing people.”
The project will help fast track our mission and obligation to the
people of Southern Sudan, to realize, “Progress, development
and provision of better services to local people in Southern Sudan
and empowering them politically, socially and economically.”
As always, we shall undertake to realize the project mandate and
inculcate values of integrity, accountability, transparency and
neutrality.
It is also UNKEA’s believe that the government of Southern
Sudan will continue working to address, amongst other things, peace
and security issues to help realize a conducive environment for
the well-being of the youth and the society at large.
The primary goal of this project is to improve the skills of youth,
both male and female, in this region of Upper Nile State. This goal
can largely be achieved by establishment of a youth resource centre
in Mandeng. This will help provide/impart skilled training services
to the youth and equip them appropriately for their future careers.
This is a critical requirement if the youth are going to effectively
and meaningfully participate in the development of the area and
avoid indulging in criminal and anti-social behaviors as a result
of being idle. UNKEA believes that the youth must directly involve
themselves in the development of their country that is they are
not spectators but active participants who have a stake! The project
is highly integrated and seeks to address other issues pertaining
to the youth such as reproductive/sexuality issues, HIV/AIDS, cultural
practices (especially those that hinder development such as cattle
rustling and early marriages, etc. Since there has not been a youth
service in Mandeng until now, this project will help improve the
participation of Nasir youth in peace building initiatives and activities
along side county peace committees. The project will also help increase
youth skills in regards to local resource mobilization and income-generating
activities.
In accordance with program goals and objectives, UNKEA has hitherto
conducted the following key activities for which budgetary support
was provided by NPA:
- Sensitization Meetings;
We have conducted a three – day sensitization meeting, which
brought together one hundred and twenty (120) participants from
the three Bomas.
- The meeting enabled the participants to understand various
aspects related to machinery, which is useful for effective
participation in the Youth program in Mandeng.
- The youth were taught basics on how to run and maintain
the machinery.
- The participants were also sensitized about the youth project
that will improve their skills for their future life.
- UNKEA considers this an important and integrated, part of
our campaign because it will lead to effective maintenance
of machinery in the area and ensure the resident communities
safely use the machinery.
- The ultimate goal is for the youth and community to own
the machineries and be self-reliant.
